This city was built at the beginning of the 20th century with the objective of housing the workers of El Teniente, the largest underground copper mine in the world. In its colorful wooden houses, more than 15,000 people lived. One of its main features is the absence of streets, with stairs being the only access roads, which is why it is known as the City of Stairs.

We invite you to visit the impressive Sewell mining town, located in the heart of the Andes Mountains, 150 kilometers south of Santiago. Pass By: Sewell Mining Town, Machali Chile

On our tour to Sewell, we will leave in the morning from Santiago towards Rancagua. From this city, we will take the President Eduardo Frei Montalva Road, better known as Copper Road. This road will take us to the Andes Mountains, while we have a panoramic view of the different facilities and plants of the El Teniente mine. Once in Sewell, we walk alongside our guide and freely the original buildings that are still standing, such as the church, the hospital, the theater and social clubs. We will also visit the recent Museum of the Great Copper Mining, inaugurated in 2010. Once back, we will go to lunch, and then continue to Santiago.
