Day 1: Hotel-ZJJ Avatar National Park(Yuanjiajie/Mt.Tianzi/GoldenWhipStream).Overnight in Wulingyuan Center
Stop At: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie 427000 China
This is No.1 highlight of Zhangjiajie-The UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage formed by a spectacular landform named sandstone peak forest of over 3000 pillars of different shapes and sizes, Highly praised as the ” Enlarged Bonsai, Miniature Fairland”.

Yuanjiajie is the main background of the very Movie: Avatar, located with hundreds of original pieces of “Floating Avatar Mountains”.(The major one is called:”Hallelujah Mountain.” the view there is really impressive like outer-space. No wonder, it’s rated as the most famous highlighted area in the park. The pillars here are bigger-sized than other areas.

Tianzi means “Heavenly Prince”. actually, he is the real person who leads the local minority to fight with the government army in Ming Dynasty 500 years ago…Mt. Tianzi Area is the very old battle field. Most of the scenic spots there are combined with historical stories and legends of this honorable man. Besides these, Visually, on the Tianzi mountain top, we can experience the most spectacular view of sandstone peak forest in the park featured by its sharp and slim shape. it’s one of the highlights in Zhangjiajie Scenic Area.

Golden Whip Stream is regarded as the 1 of the most beautiful Streams in China. It’s 6 km long with a well-paved flat walkway at the bottom of valley, which takes us about 2 hours for walking between the 2 ends. it is also where we can see the bottom view of the Avatar Mountain Scenery,very different from the top.On both sides of the walkway, there are hundreds of different-shaped sandstone peaks erecting by a lovely stream,attached with plenty of interesting legends and stories given from locals.the other interesting part is,if lucky, we can see wild monkeys which would bring more fun and make you feel closer to the mother nature.

Day 2: Hotel-Baofeng Lake-Yellow Dragon Cave-Glass Bridge.Overnight in Wulingyuan Center
Stop At: Baofeng Lake, Suoxi Town, Wulingyuan District Wulingyuan Scenic Area, Zhangjiajie 427400 China
This pretty lake lies high on top of sandstone mountains. At this spot, we could enjoy the view of Avatar Mountains on water, while, hearing lovely Tujia folk songs from young girls and boys in wooden boat and knowing interesting stories of the lake. It’s a very relaxing trip.

Stop At: Yellow Dragon Cave, Zhangqing Main Road, Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie 427400 China
I have to tell you this is the 2nd largest Cave in Asia, and this tour only involves 2/5 of it, but it already takes about 2.5 hours to see its 3 layers and 13 halls by boat and foot to appreciate the gorgeous view from hundreds of Stalagmite and Stalactite. and it’s the only place to see the inner world of amazing Zhangjiajie.

This is an amazing architecture with a big idea been accomplished. It is the world longest glass bridge(400m, Elevation:320m), and also the first glass bridge over a nature canyon.

Day 3: Hotel-Dehang Miao Village-Fenghuang Ancient Town.Overnight in Fenghuang
Stop At: Dehang Canyon, West of Jishou, Jishou China
“Dehang”, in the language of Miao Minority, means:”Beautiful Valley”. Sure it is.The view there is sort of like Zhangjiajie. No wonder, it has been taken as the most beautiful Miao Village in Western Hunan. Besides seeing the Miao Village,, there are 2 lovely hikes, we can do either of them as common practice.1st one is to a waterfall called “Flying Sand” (2 hours flat walk forward&back), the other is to a stunning view platform called ” Questioning Sky”(3 hours with a half part hiking up).

“Fenghuang is 1 of 2 most beautiful ancient town of China” praised by the writer Rewi Alley of New Zealand 70 years ago, now it has been added in the top 10 China’s ancient town list. Fenghuang assembles the multiple features of the typical water town with gorgeous nature, the mysterious minority culture of Miao and the long history of their dramatic stories, and relics of past war time of Western Hunan,More incredibly, Fenghuang is also a mutual birthplace of a great number of masters and celebrities in many working fields.For eye to appreciate, Fenghuang is highlighted by a row of beautiful riverside stilt wooden houses paralleling with old wall.The magnificent night scene is also the reason to keep us longer there for one or more overnight stays. Impressive Place.

Day 4: Fenghuang Ancient Town-Sitting Dragon Gorgre Or Red Stone Forest-Furong Town.Overnight in Zhangjiajie Downtown.
Stop At: Zuolong Gorges, Hexi Town, Guzhang County 416304 China
Surprisingly, to most of my past client, Sitting Dragon Gorge hidden in the deep mountain area turns out to be their favorite spot in western Hunan, because it’s where they can enjoy a fun nature adventure and have an authentic culture experience by interacting with locals in their village. The 1st part of the tour is a 1.5 hours’ hike-up with iron chains in a narrow but beautiful gorge decorated by waterfalls and green-covered stones.when the hike up ends on the top, we will see 2 pretty villages,where we can begin the 2nd part of tour activity: a lovely home stay offered by hospitable Tujia people. For one day and one night, we really join in their life to feel the interesting difference of living style.. They cook or they teach us to cook food picked from their backyard, it cannot be more healthy. At night, it’s so quiet that you can hear a needle dropping also make it a place to listen to the wind and rain, a place to escape from the disturbance of city. when wake up in the morning, we may feel ourselves being purified in heart. This is a great great spot for a really special travel experience combining nature and culture. Personally, My favorite, too.

This spot is a very less traveled one hidden in western part of Hunan province. with 1.5hours tour, we may see the geat work of nature.According to the geological research, 450 million years ago,The red stone forest used to be the seabed rich with the element of Iron.After millions years of erosion from rain and sea water as well as crustal movement, A red Karst landform has been formed.The interesting thing is stone color changes in different weather:red in Sunny days, black in rainy days, brown and red on cloudy days. It even shows color difference during a day.

The original name of this place is called Wangcun . Historically, It’s 1 of 4 famous old towns in Western Hunan,and used to be very prosperous since it was the most important port when waterway was still the main transportation in ancient times. Now it’s still well-preserved in shape.However, Wangcun owns its fame by a controversial movie named “Furong Town”, it is the one of the best movie in all time of history.Due to the content is about how the people’s life is impacted by political changes during some special periods of China.So the movie has been banned .but it doesn’t change its excellence at all. Wangcun is the very shooting spot of this movie, then it get a new name.

Day 5: Hotel-Tianmen Mountain-Tujia Folk Park-Junsheng Art Gallery-Happy Ending
Stop At: Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, Tianmen Mountain Ticket Station, Yongding District, Zhangjiajie 427000 China
Tianmen Mountain, appears as the ”New Legend Of Zhangjiajie “. It’s the highest spot (1500m) in Zhangjiajie,where you can walk on super-exciting cliff-path and glass walkway and see the whole city and beautiful countryside with bird’s view. and the landscape there is totally different from, meanwhile, at the same level as the ZJJ national Park. Both are world-class scenery, so it’s a must-visit highlight of this city you should not miss. What is more Unbelievable? this single mountain holds 4 World Guinness Records in its small body. and any of them will be overwhelmingly impressive to any type of human being. Just an amazing experience you have never had before.

Tujia Minority Folk Park used to be the Palace for the King of Tujia. it’s a nice place to know the local people in old times. The architectures inside are something particularly fabulous. The main attraction is the world highest stilt wooden house called “Nine layered Sky”. Now It’s a museum of Tujia Minority, a Great place to know some cultural part of Zhangjiajie.

It’s the place where your eyes would be dazzled. Through a 40min’s tour, we can enjoy a unique type of art called Sandstone Painting, which is invented by a very talented and creative local painter:”Li Junsheng”he is really a respectable man with stories and faith of art. Most of his paintings are about the landscape,people and culture of his hometown.(Zhangjiajie and western part of Hunan Province.).so at the end of the tour, visiting this gallery can be a great conclusion for the trip we have experienced. we may see the places you have visited through this wonderful local art.
