Join your guide in the hotel lobby. and then visit the Wang family home. It is a large and magnificent architectural complex originally built about 250 years ago and located in Lingshi County in Shanxi Province, the Wang family complex is 35 kilometers (22 miles) from the city antique of Pingyao. This luxurious residence was originally built in 1762-1811 by descendants of the Wang family. What makes this compound so impressive is its size and its magnificent ornamental structures. It is like a fortified mini-city with over 200 courtyards, each with its own characteristics. Finely carved wooden doors, window frames, stairs, stone sculptures, etc. were everywhere in the courtyards.

After lunch at the local restaurant, you will begin exploring the Shuanglin Temple on the outskirts of the ancient city. The Shuanglin Temple is reputed to be the “museum of ancient painted sculptures”. It houses more than 2,000 colorful sculptures reflecting the exquisite craftsmanship of artisans from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. In 1997, UNESCO inscribed it on the World Heritage List as an important cultural site of the city of Ping Yao in 1997.

In the afternoon, visit the ancient fortress of Zhangbi where you will pass through labyrinth-shaped underground tunnels.
Different from the complexes and the ancient city, the ancient fortress of Zhangbi is an exception to the culture of the merchants of Shanxi. To resist the invasion of enemies, the Chinese ancestors used its geographical advantages to the full and built a 10,000-meter-long underground military tunnel over three floors in the village. The ancient fortress of Zhangbi is a complex of historical relics, tombs, residences and tunnels, in which the underground labyrinth-shaped tunnels are most interesting.
