Palo Verde National Park

Province of Guanacaste Trip Overview

Rancho los Coyotes is perfect if you want to experience costarican culture and wildlife all in one!

After a 1 hour and 45 minutes drive in the countryside, where you will see melon, sugar cane and rice plantations, you will arrive to an old farm where the “abuelas” (grandmothers) will serve you a great breakfast or lunch (depending on the arrival time – or both if you are very hungry!).

During the two hour boat safari you will see different types of birds, crocodiles, white faced monkeys and iguanas!

After the first activity we will go back to the farm to see how the old farmers used the traditional trapiches (sugar cane mills) to produce cane juice and make jiggery (tapa de dulce). The juice is collected, boiled and poured into molds, where it hardens into blocks. This is perfect to make a refreshing drink or sweet desert.

After the cultural demonstrations you will get some free time to walk and see the museum or the farm animals before heading back to your villa.

Stop At: Vegan Travel CR, Green Mystery villas, Liberia 50503 Costa Rica

The Palo Verde National Park is home to one of Central America’s most densely populated areas of migratory birds and aquatic species. It is along the most important site for migratory birds in the Mesoamerican Pacific. Any avid birdwatcher will love traveling to this park. During the rainy season, at least 250,000 birds reside here. However, this is not the best time to visit the park because it can be difficult to get around and view the area’s wildlife. The dry season, which is between January and April, allows for much better visibility of birds and other wildlife because there is little vegetation to obstruct views.

We offer two different departure times.

An early tour, for birdlovers, since animals are more active in the morning when they wake up and it’s cooler. If your goal is to see birds it’s better to leave early and enjoy a morning full of wildlife.

Early Departure: 7:00 am  to 1:00 pm. With this option you can choose between beakfast or lunch.

Late Departure: 10:30 am to  4:00 pm.

The activities are subject to change in green season (from May to October). The cultural experience will be operated with a minimum of 5 participants.

DON’T FORGET:

Sunscreen, hat, water, camera, bug spray, comfortable shoes, passport and travel itinerary.
