Visit: Chateau de Chambord, le Chateau, 41250, Chambord France

Visit Château de Chambord, a Renaissance-style royal castle near the city of Blois, and one of the most popular attractions in the Loire Valley.Begun in 1519 by François I (r 1515–47) as a weekend hunting retreat, it quickly grew into one of the most ambitious – and expensive – building projects ever undertaken by a French monarch.

The most impressive of all the castles in the French Loire Valley, the Château De Chambord is absolutely huge, with about 400 rooms, more than 80 staircases, 365 fireplaces.

One of the most surprising architectural aspect of the castle is the double helix staircase designed by Leonardo Da Vinci. Its particularity is that it is possible to go up and down the stairs without ever seeing each other.
