The castle, built in the 13th century, has been an important part of local cultures since its construction: Turkish, Georgian and Russian architecture can be found here in one place, as well as museums, mosques, synagogues and Catholic churches.

Stop At: Khertvisi Fortress, Vil. Khertvisi, Aspindza 0500 Georgia

One of the oldest and best preserved fortresses in Georgia. The exact date of the foundation is not known, probably the 2nd century BC. The fortress was first built in the 10th-11th centuries. Century mentioned. The church dates from 985, the masonry from 1354. According to a local legend, Khertvisi was once destroyed by Alexander the Great but has since been rebuilt and occupied on numerous occasions over the centuries. The fortress complex Vardsia-Chertwissi has been on the list of proposed UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2007

The cave city of Vardsia is both a cultural symbol and a spectacular phenomenon with a special place in the history of Georgia. Vardzia is a 12th century monastery complex made up of rock-cut churches, cellars, secret tunnels and halls. This is one of the most beautiful attractions in the country. The houses of the locals who were carved into the rock at that time have up to 13 floors. In total there are over 400 rooms, 13 churches and 25 wine cellars, many of which are still being discovered today. The fortress complex Vardsia-Chertwissi has been on the list of proposed UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2007.
