Pass By: Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, 25 Shota Rustaveli Ave, Tbilisi 0108 Georgia

Founded in 1851, Tbilisi Opera is the main opera house of Georgia and one of the oldest such establishments in eastern Europe.
The opera house is one of the centers of cultural life in Tbilisi and was once home to Zacharia Paliashvili, the Georgian national composer whose name the institution has carried since 1937. The Opera and Ballet Theater also houses the State Ballet of Georgia under the leadership of internationally renowned Georgian ballerina Nina Ananiashvili. In recent years it has hosted opera stars such as Montserrat Caballé and José Carreras, while also serving as a traditional venue for national celebrations and presidential inaugurations.

If you’d love to buy or sell craft works and handmade staff created by young Georgian artists or just have a look at them – then you should pass by Dedaena Park. You can also taste homemade fruit jams and lemonades. The environment is really friendly and a bit hipster. We are sure you will enjoy Sunday afternoon over there. Good thing is that the venue with its roller park is also attractive for children.

Stop At: The Bridge of Peace, Tbilisi Georgia

The bridge which stretches 150 meters (490 ft) over the Kura River was ordered by the City Hall of Tbilisi to create a contemporary design feature connecting Old Tbilisi with the new district. The official opening took place on May 6, 2010. The bridge stretches over Kura River providing a view of the Metekhi Church, a statue of the city’s founder Vakhtang Gorgasali, and the Narikala Fortress on one side, and Baratashvili Bridge and Presidential Office on the other.
The bridge was designed by the Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, who had also designed the buildings of the Presidential Administration of Georgia and Ministry of Internal Affairs in Tbilisi; the lighting design was created by the French lighting designer Philippe Martineau

Stop At: Rike Park, The left bank of the Mtkvari River, Tbilisi Georgia

Rike park is considered to be the youngest recreational area in Tbilisi. It is situated on the left bank of the river Kura (Mtkvari) and already has become a popular place for both local and international visitors, especially families, and in summer. The Rike park is quite easy to find, as its main entrance is right from the beautiful pedestrian ‘Bridge of Peace’. The park is a host to a numerous entertainment facilities like singing and dancing fountains, artificial climbing walls, children’s maze, mega-chess board, as well as footpaths and quiet corners. The start point of a newly opened cable car that takes visitors up to Narikala fortress is located in the Rike park, as well as a number of fancy bars and restaurants.

On 23 June 2012, a new aerial tramway opened in Tbilisi. It connects the newly constructed Rike Park, that sits just across the Mtkvari river from the Old Town, with Narikala, the fortress that overlooks the city

Stop At: Narikala Fortress, Tbilisi Georgia

Narikala Fortress- is an ancient fortress overlooking Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and the Mtkvari River. The fortress consists of two walled sections on a steep hill between the sulfur baths and the botanical gardens of Tbilisi. On the lower court there is the recently restored St Nicholas church. Newly built in 1996–1997, it replaces the original 13th-century church that was destroyed in a fire. The new church is of “prescribed cross” type, having doors on three sides. The internal part of the church is decorated with the frescos showing scenes both from the Bible and the history of Georgia.

Abanotubani- is the ancient district of Tbilisi, Georgia, known for its sulphuric baths.
Located at the eastern bank of the Mtkvari River at the foot of Narikala fort across Metekhisubani, Abanotubani is an important historic part of the city: it is where according to a legend the King of Iberia, Vakhtang Gorgasali’s falcon fell, leading to a discovery of the hot springs and, subsequently, to the founding of new capital.

Stop At: Dzveli Tbilisi Sulphur Waterfall, Botanikuri st 1 Old Town, Tbilisi 0105 Georgia

Leghvtakhevi waterfall – is located in the old city of Tbilisi, one of the ancient places Abanotubani. The waterfall is 22 meters tall.

The name Leghvtakhevi comes from the Georgian word “Leghvi” which means fig. There were so many trees of fig around this place. The ancient district of Kala was separated from the main city by Leghvtakhevi gorge.
This waterfall was also known with different names in history: Tsavkisiskhevi, Sololakiskhevi, and Dabakhana.
In the XIX century, Tbilisi Botanical Garden was built in this place. Leghvtakhevi waterfall was renovated in 2012.

Stop At: Metekhi Cathedral, Metekhi St, Tbilisi Georgia

Metekhi Cathedral – is a historic neighborhood of Tbilisi, Georgia, located on the elevated cliff that overlooks the Mtkvari river. The neighborhood is home to the eponymous Metekhi Church of Assumption.
The district was one of the earliest inhabited areas on the city’s territory. According to traditional accounts, King Vakhtang I Gorgasali erected here a church and a fort which served also as a king’s residence; hence comes the name Metekhi which dates back to the 12th century and literally means “the area around the palace”. Tradition holds that it was also a site where the 5th-century martyr lady Saint Shushanik was buried. However, none of these structures have survived the Mongol invasion of 1235.

Pass By: Sioni Cathedral Church, 3, Sioni Street Old Town, Tbilisi Georgia

The Tbilisi Sioni Cathedral is situated in historic Sionis Kucha (Sioni Street) in downtown Tbilisi, with its eastern façade fronting the right embankment of the Kura River. It was initially built in the 6th and 7th centuries. Since then, it has been destroyed by foreign invaders and reconstructed several times. The current church is based on a 13th-century version with some changes from the 17th to 19th centuries. The Sioni Cathedral was the main Georgian Orthodox Cathedral and the seat of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia until the Holy Trinity Cathedral was consecrated in 2004.

Stop At: Anchiskhati Basilica, Loane Shavteli, Tbilisi Georgia

In the historical district, in upper Kala, on Shavteli street the Anchiskhati basilica is located, the church dates back to the 6th century, and according to the historical sources it was constructed by Dachi Ujarmeli ( from Ujarma) and it was bearing the name of the Virgin Mary’s birth. The name Anchiskhati was given to it a little bit later, when Peter Meskhi moved the image of Christ not made by hand from the Anchi church to this one in 1675, Peter was granted the position of a pastor by the Catholicon Domenti. From this day on the Meskhishvilis were pastors of the church. The son of Peter- Alex is the founder of the calligraphers’ dynasty called the Aleximaskhishvilis.

The Gabriadze Theater stands in the heart of Tbilisi’s historic Old Town. This beautiful building of the unique marionette theatre was designed by Gabriadze himself.
Based in its home theater in Tbilisi, Georgia, the company is under the direction of a noted artist, writer, and director Rezo Gabriadze (whose awards include Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic – France’s highest recognition for cultural achievements.)
