… after we drove past the Theresienwiese – the annual venue of the largest folk festival in the world: the Oktoberfest – we leave Munich and first drive south on the motorway …

Enjoy an unforgettable day and an overwhelming 360 ° panorama on Germany’s highest mountain. Even the ride on the ultra-modern cable car is a unique experience!

Alternatively and / or for the return trip you can take the cog railway. You can use the glacier cable car between the mountain station of the rack railway and the summit as often as you like.

In the summer months you can – depending on the snow conditions – borrow toboggans (“Zipfelbobs”) in the restaurant ‘Sonnalpin’ (subject to availability).
There or in the highest beer garden in Germany or in one of the other numerous restaurants on the Zugspitze you can enjoy varied meals for every taste.

Located at the foot of the majestic Zugspitze, the Eibsee is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes. Take a boat trip (in summer), a short walk to the top photo spot Eibseebrücke or walk around with us in about 75 minutes and marvel at the overwhelming mountain panorama and the numerous islands and islets!

Stop At: Skistadion – Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 82467 Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

Built during the Nazi dictatorship for the 1936 Winter Olympics and remodeled for the planned Winter Olympics in 1940, which failed due to World War II.
For this purpose, the two communities Garmisch and Partenkirchen were forcibly merged.

The Partnach Gorge is a fascinating 700 meters (1/2 mile) long and up to 80 meters (260 feet) deep gorge through which the meltwater of the Zugspitze glacier rages.
It is accessible all year round on secured paths and is an ideal destination for any weather!

It takes 25 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the entrance to the gorge or, during the season, a horse-drawn carriage (approx. € 20.00 for 4 people each way)

The historic Ludwigstraße in the district Partenkirchen with their colorful murals (“Lüftlmalerei”) must have seen! It invites you to stroll, marvel and enjoy.
Already 2,000 years ago here was a Roman trade route between Italy and Augsburg.

In the middle of a remote alpine valley, the Bavarian ‘fairy tale king’ Ludwig II built his most magnificent and at the same time most intimate castle. On the 30-minute guided tour through the rooms furnished in the French Rococo style, it will take your breath away.
Further attractions can be visited in the castle park; the famous VENUSGROTTE is CLOSED due to restoration work until 2024, detailed information about the grotto is available in an exhibition room near the car park.)

Let yourself be fascinated by the most beautiful and famous alpine village in Germany.
On a 20-minute guided tour of the town, you can see the famous wall paintings (“Lüftlmalerei”), the wood carvers (which also offer wonderful Christmas cribs), and the Passion Play House, in which the world-famous Passion Play – Corona will not be performed until 2022.
Then feel free to explore the place on your own.

Less than a 20-minute drive from Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the historically unique monastery church of the Benedictine Ettal monastery.
Learn more about the numerous details of this late Baroque jewel and about the spectacular foundation of the monastery.
If you want, you can also enjoy the delicious Ettaler Klosterbier from the in-house brewery.

At a stop at Bavaria’s second largest lake, we show you the place to which the incapacitated King Ludwig II was brought the day before his death; not far away, he mysteriously died on June 13, 1886 on the banks of the former castle park.
Also nearby is the villa that Ludwig rented for his admired composer Richard Wagner.
