Stop At: The Dresden Zwinger, Theaterplatz 1 Ostra-Allee, 01067 Dresden, Saxony Germany

The Dresden Zwinger is a baroque palace located in the old town, between the Semperoper Opera House and Postplatz.

The palace was built on the site that formerly occupied a fortress, hence its name, since the word Zwinger (synonymous with Ringmauer) was used to refer to the circular outer wall that was part of the fortresses.

Initially built as a greenhouse for orange trees, the construction alone served the representative claims of Prince Elector Augustus the Strong and was the site of great festivals. Today it stands out for the art and science collections found inside.
