The Brandenburg Gate represents both the building of the Berlin Wall and its collapse.

Stop At: Palace of Tears, Reichstagufer 17 Mitte, 10117 Berlin Germany

The crossing point in Friedrich Street was the most important one in the life of Berliners. It came to be known as the “Palace of Tears” as west berliners had to say good-by to their families there and then take the train back home. The site is authentic and has a very interesting museum.

At this site original relics, not only of the Berlin Wall itself, but of the entire No-Man’s-Land has been preserved. Some of the most famous tunnels under the Berlin Wall were dug here and some escape attempts took place here. The site offers a unique opportunity to understand how the Berlin Wall operated and how some people were able to flee despite all obstacles.
