The National Archaeological Museum in Athens is the largest museum in Greece, and one of the finest archaeological museums in the world.

The museum was designed in the neoclassical style by German architect Lange and afterwards by Ziller, a Saxon turned Greek architect. It is quite large, with an area of over 8000 square meters. It houses five permanent collections as well as various temporary exhibitions, ensuring that at least one of them will appeal to you. The National Archaeological Museum contains the following exhibits:
– The prehistoric collection(6000 BC to 1050 BC)
– The sculpture collection (700BC to 500 BC)
– The vase and minor objects collection (1100 BC to 500 BC)
– Metallurgy collection
– Egyptian and near eastern antiquities collection (5000 BC to 500BC)
