Pass By: Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, 364 Andrea Syngrou Ave., Kallithea 17674 Greece

The drive to Cape Sounion is approximately 1,5 hrs. Along the way, we get to drive by one of the newest landmarks of the city, a wonderful sample of temporary architecture! Designed by Renzo Piano, the SNFCC includes the Greek National Opera, the National Library of Greece as well as the Stavros Niarchos Park, one of the largest green areas in Athens, covering 21 hectares. It is a public space, where everyone has free access and can participate in a multitude of cultural, educational, athletic, environmental and recreational activities and events.

Pass By: Glyfada, Glyfada, Attica

The drive to Cape Sounion is one of the most scenic routes within Attica as it runs along the coast, offering lovely vistas. You will drive through some of the most upscale suburbs of Athens, like Glyfada. Known for its sandy beach and the high-end shopping, Glyfada has a chic beach side vibe. There are plenty of dining options, from seafood tavernas to fine dining restaurants, as well as cozy cafes and stylish late-night cocktail bars.

Pass By: Vouliagmeni, Vouliagmeni, East Attica Region, Attica

Another cosmopolitan and very upscale suburb of Athens, Vouliagmeni is named after Lake Vouliagmeni which is nearby. The area has some of the highest real estate prices in the Balkans, and quite justifiably so! Built on the waterfront, with beaches that are consistently awarded the coveted EU blue flags for environmental excellence, two marinas, an aquatic sports club, a sports club (soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis) and upscale restaurants, taverns and cafeterias, it offers one of the highest standards of living in the whole of Attica.

Stop At: Lake Vouliagmeni, Vouliagmeni 166 71 Greece

This rare geological phenomenon was created after the roof of a cave fell because of erosion caused by the high temperature of the running water. The lake’s waters are continuously replenished both by the sea and the underground thermal springs, and offer a natural and unique thermal spa experience. We will make a brief stop just to marvel at this imposing rock, the crystal clear waters and the lush vegetation.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounio, Sounio 195 00 Greece

This is the highlight of the tour! Overlooking the entrance to the bay, the Temple of Poseidon dominates the cape at a height of 60 meters above sea level. With its commanding view and strategic location, the temple of the god of the seas has been standing here since archaic times. The actual remains date back to the 5th century BC, after the previous temple was destroyed by the Persian King Xerxes I, when he raised Athens to the ground after he overcame King Leonidas at the battle of Thermopylae. You will be guided around this beautifully preserved Doric temple and then be given time to enjoy the breathtaking sunset that will grip you! We will then make our way back home, or time permitting, give you some extra time for dinner in one of the nearby tavernas.
