Itinerary
Mount Parnitha is the closest mountain to Athens and the only National Park in Europe so close to a capital! We will start our tour from Beletsi Lake-an oasis near central Athens. The stops along the lake will offer us opportunities to capture the prolific nature. Lake Beletsi, located altitude of 600m, created by accident in 1970s, when the opening of a forest road blocked the passage of water. Today is home to many migratory birds, while the lake waters are often filled with swans and ducks. From Beletsi Lake we will drive to Tatoi. In the slope of mighty Mount Parnitha is the Former Royal Estate of Tatoi, which was once the summer residence of the former Greek Royal Family. In 1948 it was converted to a permanent residence till 1974, when the referendum rejected the reestablishment of the royal family. We will tour in the abandoned buildings and document the Old Palace, the stables, wine cellars, garages and many more outbuildings. The area is a symbol of the Greek Monarchy. From the ex-glory of Tatoi estate we will head up to Mount Parnitha, the highest mountain in Attica. Where we will have the opportunity to capture stunning views of Athens.
