Sparti Trip Overview
The highest peak of the Peloponnese is on Taygetos at 2407 meters. You can choose between one day trip or two-day trip. We will escort you from the Sparta shelter either for the shorter route or the longer. Starting from the Maganiari spring at 980 meters, where the longer route begins, and on the way to the shelter, by a marked path, we will come across rich fauna and flora which you’ll have the chance to photograph. For the shorter route we’ll start right outside the shelter, though the mountain’s rich flora won’t accompany us much longer as the vegetation gradually decreases and the slope into a new rocky environment increases. From the shelter, at the Varvara spot at 1,550 meters, we leave the Laconian side of Taygetos behind us and three hours later, climbing the last few meters of the mysterious ‘pyramid’ we will meet the roofless chapel of the Prophet Elija. The view of the entire Messinian bay will lie before us.
