Itinerary

Day 1: Cochin to Munnar

Pass By: Neriamangalam Bridge, Kerala, India
The Neriamangalam Bridge, built across the Periyar river, is often referred as ‘The Gateway to the Highranges’ as it is on the way to the higher regions of Idukki district, especially Munnar. The bridge was made by the Maharaja of Travancore in 1935.

Stop At: Cheeyappara Waterfalls, Kochi-Madurai-Tondi Point Rd, Idukki 685561 India
The Cheeyappara Waterfall is on the way to Munnar, between Neriamangalam and Adimali. The Cheeyappara Waterfall cascades down in seven steps.

Valara waterfalls falling from a height of about 1000 feet and provide a magnificent view. These waterfalls are surrounded by lush, dense forests that are home to a variety of animals and birds. It is one of the top waterfalls near Munnar, 1 kms after Cheeyappara waterfalls.

Stop At: C.S.I Christ Church, Kochi – Dhanushkodi Road, Munnar 685612 India
The old CSI Christ Church is the headquarters of the CSI Munnar Pastorate with over thousand Tamil families and 18 outstation churches. The church, counted amongst the most revered sites in Munnar, was built in AD 1910 by the British. This holy site is popular for its exquisite stained glass windows. Besides, it has engraved brass plaques that were made in the memory of the tea planters.

The site of the church was formally consecrated by Rt. Rev. Noel Hodges on 15th April 1900 on the occasion of Easter. The church’s foundation stone was laid in March 1910 by Sir A.K. Muir and inaugurated on 16th April 1911 by Rev. W.F.B Hoysted, the then priest. When the British left Munnar in 1981, they handed over the charge of the church to CSI North Kerala Diocese.

Day 2: Munnar Sight seeing

Stop At: Mattupetty Dam, Munnar Top Station Highway, Munnar 685616 India
Mattupetty is among the most visited destinations in the tourist hotbed of Munnar. It is a beautiful picnic spot that regularly attracts visitors. People love visiting the dam and lake here and families can regularly be seen enjoying a fine afternoon in the area. The view of the valley from here is breath-taking and one gets to simply relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.

The lush green tea plantations and forests in and around Mattupetty are ideal for trekking and host a large number of unique bird species. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Idukki provides boating facilities at Mattupetty Dam that are loved by all our visitors. The drive up the location itself is cherished by all who embark upon it, as the mist-covered valleys rising to meet you are a trulyawe-inspiring sight.

Stop At: Echo Point, Munnar-Top Station Highway, Munnar 685616 India
Echo Point, Popular for its natural echo phenomenon, one can always see the area full of eager visitors throughout the year. At an altitude of about 600 ft, people love taking a walk in the lush greenery surrounding the place. It is an ideal picnic spot.

People usually come across Echo Point while making the trip to Top Station, the highest point (1700m) in Munnar, on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road. Here the clouds seem like they are just an arm’slength away and one gets a brilliant view of the valley below. This is also a prime viewing spot for the Neelakurinji (Strobilantheskunthianus), flowers which bloom once every twelve years.

Stop At: Kundala Dam Lake, Top Station, Munnar India
The place is a blissful escapade for tourists who want to spend undisturbed sightseeing in Munnar. Kundala Lake is a popular picnic and photography spot for the tranquil landscape it embraces. The water reservoir is one of its chief attractions.

Stop At: Top Station, Munnar-Kodaikkanal Road around 32 km away from Munnar, Munnar India
With magnificent views all around, the scenic heights of Top Station will make you wish for wings to soar in the misty blue sky. One of the most beautiful spots in Munnar, Top Station is situated about 1,700 m above sea level. The cool breeze and wild flowers make this a great place to wind away the hours. The heights offer a striking view of the nearby State of Tamil Nadu.

Stop At: Rajamalai (Eravikulam) National Park, Munnar India
Eravikulam National Park is around 15 kms from Munnar town and it is the natural habitat of the Nilghiri Thar. It is the first and largest national park in kerala. The national park is managed by the Kerala Department of Forest and Wildlife, Munnar. The main motive behind this was to protect the rare Nilgiri Tahr and Hemitragus Hylocrious, which are common here. But now the park is home to numerous protected species of flora and fauna. Apart from Tahr, other little known animals such as Nilgiri marten, small clawed otter, ruddy mongoose, and dusky striped squirrel are also found. Elephants make seasonal visits.

The national park is divided into three areas – the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. In which, the Rajamalai is known to be the tourism area of the park. Private vehicles are not allowed within the park. You can park your vehicle in the parking area and go to the park by common transportation provided by the Authorities. Tickets are issued till 430 PM

Day 3: Munnar to Alleppey

Stop At: Alleppey Backwaters, Alappuzha India
Arrive Alleppey and Check in to Private Houseboat by 12 noon and begin your journey through the picturesque backwaters and small lakes of Kerala. Your houseboat has bedrooms with attached toilet, a dining area cum sit out. There will be 3 accompanying staff in the boat. One driver, one helper and one cook. Lunch, Evening Tea, Snacks and Dinner will be cooked and served on board by the accompanying cook.

Stop At: Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Parade & KB Jacob Road Fort Cochin, Kochi (Cochin) 682001 India
The church situated at Fort Kochi close to St. Francis Church and is worth visiting. Some beautiful paintings can be seen here. The Church was built by Portuguese and elevated to Cathedral by Pope Paul IV in 1558.

The Protestant church was originally built by Portuguese in 1503 AD and is believed to be the oldest church built by the Europeans in India. This was initially built of timber and later reconstructed in stone masonry. It was restored in 1779 by Protestant Dutch, converted to an Anglican church by the British in 1795 and is present governed by the Church of South India. Vasco da gama was buried here in 1524 before his remains were moved to Lisbon, Portugal. The tombstone still remains.

St. Francis Church was the original burial site of explorer Vasco da Gama. Upscale eateries and chic cafes serve Keralan specialties, and quaint shops sell cotton clothing and handmade souvenirs. The Fort Kochi beach, with its clean premises and tranquil atmosphere, is frequented by tourists as well as the local people.

There are many factors that differentiate the beach from the other beaches of Kerala. The presence of the Chinese fishing nets is probably the most easily identifiable one. The trees and the greenery on the walkway to the beach add to the serene atmosphere there. It is on these beaches that the famous Cochin Carvinal is conducted on New Year’s Eve.

The sea food, the Vasco da Gama Square adjacent to the beach, a light house and a granite walkway are the other main attractions. The beach also gives you a breathtaking view of the sunset. If you are lucky, you may glimpse cargo ships passing through the sea. The remains of the Fort Immanuel can also be seen here. A section of the beach is not accessible to visitors as it is under the control of the Indian Navy.
