Lonar Lake was created by an asteroid collision with earth impact during the Pleistocene Epoch. It is one of the four known, hyper-velocity, impact craters in basaltic rock anywhere on Earth.

Gomukh Temple is located along the rim of the crater. A perennial stream emerges from here and pilgrims visiting the temple bathe in the stream.

The Daityasudan Temple is an excellent example of exquisite sculpture and outstanding architecture. The detailed carvings that cover the entire surface of the temple depict everything from deities, stories from the puranas and epics, to history from that era to erotic imagery.
