Day 2: Delhi

The eminent structures that the Red Fort holds are the Lahore Gate (the main gate), Delhi Gate (the public gate), Diwan-i-khas (the Hall of Private Audiences), Nahr-i-Behisht (which grounds the imperial private apartments), Moti Masjid, the Pearl Mosque, Hayat Bakhsh Bagh, pavilions, water channels and fountains.

Located in one of the oldest and busiest corners of Old Delhi, the Jama Masjid is the largest and best-known mosque in India that was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1656. It comprises three great gates, four towers and two 40 metres high minarets, constructed of strips of red sandstone and white marble.

The Secretariat Building or Central Secretariat is where the Cabinet Secretariat is housed, which administers the Government of India. Built in the 1910s, it is home to some of the most important ministries of the Cabinet of India. Situated on Raisina Hill, New Delhi, the Secretariat buildings are two blocks of symmetrical buildings (North Block and South Block) on opposite sides of the great axis of Rajpath, and flanking the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s House).

Built in 1565, after nine years of Humayun’s death, the Humayun’s tomb site maintains several other graves, monuments and mosques. In the year 1993 the tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One can see a perfect blending of Rajasthani and Islamic features in the architecture of the tomb. The Char Bagh Garden is one of the major attractions inside the complex. The garden is divided into four squares by paved walkways and beautifully designed water channels.

Located on the ruins of the Lal Kot, the Red Citadel in the city of Dhillika, the Qutub Minar is one of the major attractions in New Delhi and is the tallest minar in India. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, made of red sandstone and marble and is surrounded by several other ancient and medieval structures.The construction of the minar was commissioned by Qutub-ud-din Aibak in the year 1192 and later it was repaired by Firoz Shah Tughlaq and Sikandar Lodi.

Mehtab Bagh is a 25 acre garden constructed during 1631 to 1635 alongside the beautiful Yamuna river and is one of the most beautiful baghs (gardens) in the city that is a hit among the locals and the tourists alike. The garden is a hotspot because of its exquisite location parallel to the ever majestic Taj Mahal. The garden is also called as the Moonlight garden as it gives a splendid view of the Taj in the moonlit nights.

Chand Baori is one of India’s deepest and largest step wells. The huge tank with delicate carvings is certainly delightful to the eyes.

Day 5: Jaipur

The Amer Fort, situated in Amber, 11 kilometers from Jaipur, is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan. Amer, originally, was the capital of the state before Jaipur. It is an old fort, built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh. This fort is also very popularly known as the Amer Palace. The Amer Fort has influences of both Hindu and Muslim architecture. This fort also has the ‘Shila Devi’ Temple and the ‘Ganesh Pol’ which is a gate that leads to the private palaces of the kings. The Amer Fort has many pavilions and halls of great interest and other popular attractions.

The Jaigarh Fort is a majestic stronghold built by Sawan Jai Singh.This almost-intact fort is surrounded by huge battlements and is connected to the Amer Fort (also called ‘Amber’ Fort), with subterranean passages. Originally built to protect the Amer Fort and the palace within the complex, the Jaigarh Fort is architecturally similar to the Amer Fort, and offers a panoramic view of the city of Jaipur.
