Itimad-ud-Daulah Tomb –
Mirza Beg is a Persian who came to India due to poverty. On the way, his wife gave birth to a girl baby. They decided to abandon the baby due to poverty but they did not have a heart to do so. The girl brought luck to them as they found a carriage that took them to the court of Akbar. While under the rule of Akbar, Beg became a trusted worker and an important minister in the court. He also had a son. His daughter Nurwas married off to a Persian but returned as a widow in the same year. Akbar’s son fell in love with Nur and married her. She became an important political figure. When Beg died, his daughter Nur ordered to build this tomb in memory of her father. Her son, Shah Jahan fell in love with her brother’s daughter, Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of the tomb started in 1622 and ended after 6 years.
Mehtab bagh –
Mehtab Bagh is a garden complex in Agra just north of the Taj Mahal. It overlooks the Agra fort and the Yamuna river is on its opposite side. It is one of the most scenic spots in Agra and is worth a visit for its sheer natural beauty. A glimpse of the Taj Mahal and the Agra fort from the Mehtab Bagh is something that gets most tourists excited. The Mehtab Bagh happens to be one of eleven similar gardens built by the Mughals. Built by emperor Babur, it later came to be known for its ideal view of the Taj Mahal. The Mehtab Bagh or ‘the Moonlight garden’ was a recreational complex full of pools, fountains and trees as mentioned in several historic texts. Aurangzeb also makes a mention of the destruction caused here after a flood in one of the letters he sent to Emperor Shah Jahan. Today, Mehtab Bagh remains one of the best places to view the Taj Mahal.
