Matera, in addition to being a city rich in history and culture, is a city that manages to surprise even from a gastronomic point of view.
What we offer you in this experience is a visit that will introduce you to one of the genuine local products, Matera oil, from its cultivation to its production, up to the final product.
The company you are going to visit was founded in 2000 thanks to the initiative of the founder and his family, who made it one of the most important and famous companies in the area.
A family that lives for the passion for the land and for one of its most noble and important products, extra virgin olive oil, in fact.
The company in question also obtained First Place in the Olivarum Regional Competition in the Tornata of the National Olive Academy in Basilicata, under the brand name “Olio dei Sassi”.
The tour is divided into three different moments: an excursion inside the fields, a visit to the oil mill and an oil tasting and / or tasting.
You can choose between:
• Oil Tasting: explanations will be given for the recognition of a good extra-virgin olive oil and the approach to tasting accompanied by “Matera bread”;
• Typical products tasting: break with tasting of various typical Lucanian products.
The itinerary is structured as follows:
• Excursion in olive grove: after illustrating the history of the company, explanations will be given about the area, the plantations and the varieties of crops planted. The various stages of cultivation will also be illustrated and, depending on the period, you can watch the activities carried out on site: tree pruning or olive harvest;
• Visit to the mill: the milling processes will be described with a tour of the machinery used for the extraction of extra virgin olive oil. A visit to the packaging laboratory will follow and the conservation and bottling process will be explained;
• Oil Tasting: explanations will be given for the recognition of a good extra-virgin olive oil and the approach to tasting accompanied by “Matera bread”.
