Aquileia is an exceptional archaeological site that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the excavations and ancient remains of the Roman Forum, the necropolis and the imposing structures of the old river port.
Do not miss the magnificent early Christian Basilica which houses the largest mosaic floor in the Western Christian world, an important stage in the history of European art.
The last gem is the Domus Romana by Tito Macro. The largest reconstruction of a real Domus in Italy with original mosaic floors.

Stop At: Basilica Patriarcale di Aquileia, Piazza Capitolo 1, 33051 Aquileia Italy
We visit the Basilica of Aquileia with its crypt of frescoes and crypt of excavations. The first early Christian church in Northern Italy, transformed in Romanesque and Gothic style from the 11th century, famous for the largest mosaic floor in Europe of 750 m2 of the fourth century.

Stop At: Cimitero Al Milite Ignoto, Via Sacra SS 352 per circa 15 km, 33051 Aquileia Italy
We visit the military cemetery of the fallen of the Great War where 10 unknown soldiers remarry. The eleventh unknown soldier was chosen by a symbolic mother and transported on the train from the Basilica of Aquileia to the monument dedicated to the homeland of Rome, where she rests forever.

Taking a walk along the Via Sacra we pass in front of the excavations of the former river port of Aquileia from the Roman era.

We stop to observe the excavations of the Roman Forum of Aquileia

After a walk of about 15 minutes we arrive at the Roman burial ground where we can see very well preserved Roman tombs, which once stood along one of the decumani of ancient Aquileia.

We can, upon reservation and in case of availability, visit the largest reconstruction in Italy of a real Roman Domus where we can observe the ancient mosaic floors and understand its structure and functionality.
