Stop At: Matsuo Shrine, 296 Saijōchō Saijō, Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima 739-0001, Japan

A shrine within a larger shrine’s precincts, and is dedicated to the god of sake as you will see from the sake barrels lined up in front. Let’s say hello to the gods so that you can drink delicious sake on today’s tour.

Stop At: Saijohommachi History Square, 9 Saijohommachi, Higashihiroshima 739-0011 Hiroshima Prefecture

For Saijo to become a famous sake brewery spot, there were many innovators. You can learn the history and culture of Sakagura street.
Sake should taste better at the breweries after you understand the city of Saijo.

Stop At: Hakubotan Brewery, 15-5 Saijohommachi, Higashihiroshima 739-0011 Hiroshima Prefecture

There is a document showing Hakubotan Brewery’s foundation in 1675, which makes it the oldest sake brewery in Saijo. Let’s enjoy the taste of sake which turned Saijo into a sake-producing city.

As you walk along the stone pavement and enter the store, you will arrive at a cozy, relaxed atmosphere where they sell their passion, Japanese sake. Of course, you can taste some sake as well.

Stop At: Kamotsuru Sake Brewery, 9-7 Saijohommachi, Higashihiroshima 739-0011 Hiroshima Prefecture

Japan’s famous brewery that ships most of Saijo’s sake. The touring area is also the largest with plenty of displaying/tasting/sales space! A spot where you can learn Japanese sake’s production processes!

Stop At: Fukubijin Sake Breweries, 6-21 Saijohommachi, Higashihiroshima 739-0011 Hiroshima Prefecture

They have spring water used as “mother” water which you can also drink. Not only can you taste the sake and purchase some, but you can also buy original items. The displays of “Nation’s Sake” hand-written by successive prime ministers are also another highlight.

Stop At: Kugurimon Coffee Shop, 17-1 Saijōhonmachi, Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima 739-0011, Japan

・KUGURIMON COFFEE: A coffee shop where you can drink tasty fresh roasted coffee made with sake’s “mother” water. They also sell specialty products and unique goods of East Hiroshima such as sake Manju (buns with sweet red bean paste filling) and Karinto (Japanese fried snacks) made of sake lees. How about purchasing some souvenirs that are sake-related?

Stop At: Kugurimon Coffee Shop, 17-1 Saijōhonmachi, Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima 739-0011, Japan

・KUGURIMON Gate: KUGURIMON COFFEE has a unique structure where the attics of two buildings are joined together creating a “gate” which people can walk under. Let’s head back to the station after going through Saijo’s famous sightseeing spot.
