Totsukawa is the largest of Japan’s 183 village districts.
No less than 96% of the district is covered by forest. We have created a program which offers the chance to see what life is like for the local people who live so close to nature in this little visited corner of Japan.
You are certain to be given the warmest of welcomes by the local folk, and to gain insights into the ways in which they live in harmony with nature.
This is a special plan that allows you to enjoy traditional dishes like meharizushi and the Totsukawa Oh-odori dance (a registered intangible important folk cultural property) with local people.
*This is a 1-night, 2-day trip where you will interact with local people and feel true Japanese culture.
*We are offering a ticket to enjoy some of the onsen hot spring baths in Totsukawa Village, as a present just for people who apply in 2020. (first come first serve, limited availability)

What to Expect When Visiting Totsukawa, Nara, Japan

Itinerary
Day 1: Nara – Totsukawa
Pass By: Totsukawa-mura, Totsukawa-mura, Yoshino-gun, Nara Prefecture, Kinki
10:30 Meet at Kintetsu or JR Nara station
13:30 Make meharizushi with local people and have lunch (90 min.)
15:00 Free time from check-in until evening (we plan to create a separate optional tour)
*Please enjoy the World Heritage “Hatenashi Settlement” or the hot spring bath
17:00 Experience the Musashi Bon-odoridance with the locals (90 min.)
19:00 Eat dinner at a local restaurant
20:00 Take a taxi to Omori-no-sato
*You can also buy ingredients and cook for yourself at Omori-no-sato.

Day 2: Nara – Totsukawa
Stop At: Totsukawa-mura, Totsukawa-mura, Yoshino-gun, Nara Prefecture, Kinki
(Check-out by 10:00 a.m.)
10:00～11:00 Experience the Totsukawa Oh-odori Dance
11:30～12:30 Experience making mehari-zushi
When you are finished making mehari-zushi, you will take a taxi to Totsukawa Village Onsen or to the bus stop at the Totsukawa Village Office.
The tour ends at either Totsukawa Village Onsen or at the Totsukawa Village Office.
*We also have optional plans that you can enjoy along with these activities.

・A guided tour walking through the Hatenashi settlement along the Kumano Kodo path, a World Heritage site.
・A guided tour of the highlights of Totsukawa Village (Tanize Suspension Bridge, Doro Gorge, Yaen Ropeway Experience).
・A tour with an early morning prayer at Tamaki Shrine.
