he Church of Pitigliano, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, was probably built around 1276 and was soon raised to the role of collegiate church.
Remodeled several times in the following centuries, its original appearance was profoundly modified by the restoration commissioned by Niccolò III Orsini.
In 1845, after the Bishop of Sovana chose Pitigliano as his official residence, the church became a Cathedral.
The imposing facade of the Cathedral is characterized by the presence of four large pilasters, in the center a large travertine portal surmounted by some 18th-century stuccos depicting Cherubs holding the Cross. On both sides of the portal, there are two niches inside which are housed the statues of St. Paul, on the right and of St. Peter, on the left. on the tympanum there is a bas-relief depicting Maria Assunta with San Rocco and San Francesco, made of Carrara marble.
The Medicean Aqueduct of Pitigliano is a grandiose hydraulic work that allowed the village to be supplied with water.
Built between 1636 and 1639, the aqueduct was strongly desired by the Medici family for the water supply to the city of Pitigliano. It was the first aqueduct built in Maremma.
