In a nearby quarry a huge stone was found named “Hebla stone” which means pregnant in Arabic. It’s named according to an old legend that women used to touch the stone to get pregnant.

Anjar, is an Umayyad city founded by Caliph Walid I at the beginning of the 8th century.

The ruins reveal a very regular layout, reminiscent of the palace-cities of ancient times, and are a unique testimony to city planning under the Umayyad.
