Stop At: Kek Lok Si Temple, 1000-L, Tingkat Lembah Ria 1, Air Itam, Penang Island 11500 Malaysia

Standing on a hilltop at Air Itam, near Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. Also known as the ‘Temple of Supreme Bliss’. The complex is divided into three zones while the temple grounds comprise the hill entrance, souvenir, food and drinks stalls and the turtle liberation pond. The turtle pond – known as The Liberation Pond – was built because according to Chinese tradition, turtles symbolize longevity, strength and endurance and the act of capturing and freeing a turtle is a symbol of spiritual liberation. The main attraction here is the impressive pagoda of Rama VI and at the centre of the complex, the seven-storey, 30-metre high tower is acknowledged as the ‘face’ of Kek Lok Si.

Stop At: Snake Temple, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Bayan Lepas, Penang Island 11900 Malaysia

The Penang Snake Temple is about three km from the airport in Sungai Kluang, Bayan Lepas. The temple is also known as the Temple of the Azure Cloud or Pure Cloud Temple and was constructed in 1850. Built in honour of Chor Soo Kong, a Buddhist priest and healer, legend has it that the monk gave shelter to the snakes and when the temple was completed after his death, they moved in on their own. After that, the snakes were believed to the disciples of the priest, so it became the home to several resident venomous Wagler’s pit vipers and green tree snakes. As a result of a generous donation from a Scotsman, David Brown, whom Chor Soo Kong is said to have healed of an incurable disease using local medicine. The Snake Temple is one of Penang’s ‘Malaysia – Truly Asia’ sights, to quote Tourism Malaysia.

Little India Penang is located in Georgetown, the capital of Penang. It is in the center of Penang Heritage zone. It covers the area around 3 streets. They are Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Queen and Jalan Pasar. The traditional Indina music playing along the market street (Jalan Pasar) and there are many fashion Indian stores. Here local sell mostly saree, silk and cotton, almost anything that has the essence of India. The food such as roti canai thosai, briyani rice, tandoori chicken is affordable and tasty. Here you can experience eat the food on a banana leaf using just hand without utensils. Of course, can request for spoon and forks.
