Stop At: Essaouira, Essaouira, Marrakech-Safi

Leave Marrakech and travel through breathtaking Moroccan landscapes towards Essaouira. Observe the few villages and camels you come across on the way, as well as sheep and goats in the pastures.

The vegetation will then change to make way for argan trees that only grow in the wild and produce berries that serve as food for goats in the region. You may see some of them balanced on the delicate branches of the trees. If you wish, you can stop to taste argan oil in a small cooperative run by a local woman, where the oil is extracted from trees. This very useful oil is famous for its use in cooking and in cosmetics.

Admire the view of Essaouira on the road to the city. This charming artistic city, blue and white, has been a favorite with barefoot travelers for decades. Once in Essaouira, explore its strange wonders at your own pace. Stroll along the quays, where you can observe the fishermen unloading their catch of the day as well as the fishing boats returning to the port. Take advantage of the many restaurants in the port to enjoy a lunch of fresh fish and seafood.

Stroll the picturesque streets, explore the historic ramparts and visit the medina, full of local artists selling their handcrafted thuja wood. Observe the ramparts to get an idea of how this ancient port village was armed against the threat of an invasion. Marquetry is still a traditional specialty of Essaouira. Spend a peaceful and relaxing afternoon at the beach if you wish.

At the end of your visit, you will be driven back to Marrakech and dropped off at your hotel.
