The hustle and bustle of Marrakech quickly wears off as you enter the peace and beauty of Essaouira. This ancient citadel on the west Atlantic coast of Africa literally means “wall” in the Berber language, and you will quickly discover why. Travelers from all over the world come here to discover the very special weather, and explore its diversity and unique history.
The vegetation passes to argan trees which only grow in the wild and which provide berries for local goats. These special trees are prized for their very nutritious, cosmetic and medicinal properties. This tree, a relic species from the tertiary age, is extremely well adapted to drought and other harsh environmental conditions in southern Morocco, and now being threatened, is placed under the protection of UNESCO.
