We meet in front of Amsterdam Central station. Vincent van Gogh lived in an exciting time. The modern world was in full swing due to the emergence of an extensive railway network in Europe. And Vincent was moving with it and so will you! You catch the train to Eindhoven in the south of the Netherlands.

On one of his many walks from Nuenen to Eindhoven, Van Gogh painted the Coll watermill. You will cycle from Eindhoven to Nuenen and pass this water mill.

Nuenen is a beautiful village. Of course beauty is subjective. But it was not for nothing that Vincent van Gogh’s painting really blossomed here. Of course, the world-famous painter worked in several countries and produced his most distinctive and best-known works in France. He lived in Nuenen for only two years, but painted a quarter of his oeuvre there, including his first masterpiece “The Potato Eaters.

It was his fascination with peasant life and the beauty of the village that inspired Van Gogh. The typical structure of a ribbon settlement
with triangular squares and hamlets. He saw the Park and the Mountain where the cattle stood drinking. The historic core that changed into a typical Brabant landscape with small fields, rows of poplars and the former floodplains of the Dommel in the Nuenens Broek. This Nuenen is still visible. The landscape, the monuments (14 locations which he once painted can still be seen) and the way in which the historic core merges into the landscape.

After visiting Nuenen, return to Amsterdam and visit the van Gogh Museum. Here you can see the paintings of the places you visited yourself in Nuenen and its surroundings. Your personal experience of the place gives a unique extra dimension to the painting that van Gogh painted.
