What makes Krakow: Royal Cathedral, Mary’s Church & Rynek Underground Tour a unique experience ?

Enter the magnificent Gothic Wawel Cathedral through the stairs over which the bones of ancient animals are hung, through the door sealed with the king’s initials, admire the beauty and feel the peace adoring the figures of the holy martyrs. The memory of this place dates back to the year 1000, when the bishopric of Kraków was established and the first cathedral was built. Over the centuries, the cathedral changed its face, subsequent builders added their towers and shrines, and the inexorable time and the turmoil of history stood against them.
Today, visitors’ attention is drawn to, among others, a silver coffin with the relics of Saint Stanislaus placed under a gilded dome; a black crucifix famous for its miracles, before which, according to tradition, Saint Queen Jadwiga prayed in the 14th century; numerous sarcophagi and graves of Polish rulers; beautifully decorated Sigismund, Vasa and Świętokrzyska chapels.

The crowning achievement of a visit to the cathedral may be climbing the Sigismund Tower, from which there is a great view of the surrounding area. On its top floor you can admire the most famous bell in Poland, named after King Sigismund (Zygmunt). With a diameter of 2.5 m, a height of 2 m and a weight of 11 tons, Zygmunt has been the largest bell in Poland since its inception, weighs almost 13 tons and requires 12 bell-ringers to swing it. In the past, its sound welcomed the royal children to the world and said goodbye to rulers departing on their last journey. Another beautiful legend is connected with the Zygmunt bell: whoever climbs the tower and touches the heart of the bell will always return to Krakow.

Collegium Maius, located in the heart of Krakow, Poland, is a historic gem and the oldest building of Jagiellonian University, dating back to the 14th century. Its stunning Gothic architecture and intricately adorned courtyard create an atmosphere of academic prestige and cultural richness. Renowned for its role in nurturing some of the brightest minds in European history, Collegium Maius stands as a testament to the university’s enduring legacy.

Grodzka, a picturesque street in the heart of Krakow’s Old Town, invites visitors on a journey through time with its charming cobblestone pathway and well-preserved medieval architecture. Lined with historic townhouses, stylish cafes, and unique boutiques, Ulica Grodzka provides a delightful blend of cultural richness and vibrant street life. As pedestrians wander along this enchanting thoroughfare, they pass by notable landmarks such as St. Andrew’s Church and the Church of St. Peter and Paul, immersing themselves in the captivating history and atmosphere of Krakow.

The square is the largest medieval town squar in Europe, measuring 200 square meters. You will see for example the iconic Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) at the center of the square and the Adam Mickiewicz Monument, erected in the 19th century, pays homage to the renowned Polish Romantic poet.

St. Mary’s Basilica, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture situated in Krakow’s Main Market Square, is an iconic symbol of the city’s religious and cultural heritage.Inside you will an altar, the famous wooden altarpiece of Veit Stoss.
