Nazare is now known for its big wave surfing but this small coastal town has a traditional fishing community. Learn some of the location stories and maybe catch a glimpse of the fisherman’s wives in traditional dress. Nazare has the most amazing views from the small village of Sitio, at the top of the fill. Travel up the funicular and prepare to be amazed.

Then it’s onto the spellbinding, gothic Monastery of Alcobaça. This huge gothic monastery is both impressive and spellbinding. It’s scale is hard to describe – you have to see it for yourself! It was established in 1153 by Portugal’s first king, Afonso Henriques and was once home to 1000 monks. It is a masterpiece of Cisterian gothic art and retains its authenticity as it has not undergone any major alterations.

Finally you arrive at Obidos; a place of ancient legends and miracles. Enter through the walls of the most romantic village in Portugal and experience some of what it was like to live in medieval times. There is so much to see here. Highlights include the main gateway into the town, the battlements, the 11th century castle, a medieval church and a bustling street lined with gift shops and restaurants.
