Day 1: Cape Town – Oudtshoorn

Stop At: Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, Gonna Kraal Road Little Brak River, Mossel Bay 6053 South Africa
Depart from Cape Town early morning (between about 6am to ± 8am – subject to your address) for the scenic journey to Oudtshoorn. Leave the silhouette of Table Mountain behind and trade it for the lush green scenery of the Garden Route.

The wildlife reserve is about 450 km (about 6 hours subject to rest stops in between) from Cape Town.

Once arrived, enjoy a 2,5 hour safari 4×4 safari game drive at Botlierskop private game reserve, the ranger points out wildlife as he searches for most of the Big Five animals (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino) in the 3500ha private game reserve – located in a malaria-free zone. It’s home to an abundance of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, rare black impala and more than 200 bird species.

Just when you thought your bush experience couldn’t get any better, hop off the safari vehicle for a short ±20min tranquil bushwalk, following your game ranger as you track wildlife through the coastal renosterveldt and Cape fynbos.

In the heart of the Klein Karoo, luxe canvas tents are decked out with all the creature comforts including a beautiful claw-footed bath, rustic outdoor shower and the most inviting king-sized bed. Wooden balconies overlook the dam where hippos wallow languidly in the glassy water. On the horizon line, giraffes snack on the tops of tall trees as the sun dips below the horizon.  Take in the calm veld surrounds by lounging at the pool deck amongst giant aloe vera, framing your perfect view of birds and game that visit the water’s edge at sunset.

Stop At: Buffelsdrift Game Lodge – Activities, Cango Caves Road, Oudtshoorn 6620 South Africa
After breakfast, jump straight back into the thick of the Klein Karoo bush to find even more wildlife as you set out on another 4×4 safari  (1,5 hours) to search for buffalo, elephant, kudu, zebra, wildebeest – just to name a few. You could spot porcupine, caracals, meerkats, aardvark, honey badgers and foxes and the experience feels even more intimate in the open-air jeep.
