Spanning eight acres, the Babylonstoren garden is formal in structure. Every one of over 300 varieties of plants in the garden is edible and it is grown as biologically as we can. Fruit and veg are harvested year round for use in our restaurant. The garden is divided into fifteen clusters spanning vegetable areas, berries, bees, indigenous plants, ducks and chickens and includes a prickly pear maze. Gravity feeds water into waterways from stream into the garden as it was done for 300 years.

La Motte’s completely redesigned and refurbished tasting facility, featuring a large fireplace for cozy winter tastings, has been highly commended for the inviting and friendly ambiance. Here, a wide variety of La Motte’s award-winning wines can be sampled and purchased in a stylish and relaxing atmosphere. Seated at hand-made tasting tables, a welcoming tasting counter or on comfortable sofas, visitors have an unimpeded view of the working and maturation cellars through large glass panels. Tastings are enjoyed amidst original works of art by acclaimed South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef, after whom La Motte’s Pierneef Collection of premium wines is named.

The history of this noble estate tells of freedom found and fortunes made, of valour, savoir-faire and fruitful ventures. It is a past that is as spirited as Grande Provence herself. Here we shall lunch in either the fine dine restaurant or Bistro depending on your preference.

Last stop for the day where you can enjoy the Millineux Signature Tasting. The tasting room is run by the Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines team, whose knowledgeable staff will guide you in the finer nuances of their premium handcrafted wines.
