Every year, from July to October, the Southern Right Whales bask in the warm waters of the Hermanus coastline. This full-day whale watching and sightseeing tour will not only take you the Hermanus coastline, but will guide you along the scenic coast.

After 20 years of photographing and observing the behavioural patterns of the Southern Right Whales that visit Walker Bay annually, I consider myself a Whale behavioural specialist and
I offer a unique and interactive land based whale watching experience, that includes sharing knowledge and personal stories spanning over two decades.

Hermanus is regarded by WWF and Greenpeace as being one of the world's best locations to watch Whales, it holds famous Whale Festivals between the months of June to end of November every year which attracts plenty eager Whale watchers. Southern Right Whales, Humpbacks and Bryde Whales are spotted, with the highest number of 196 Whales ever being viewed in just ONE day. (Whale watching season is from early June to late November each year.) Penguins, Cape Fur Seals and Sea-birds are also viewed, with occasionally pods of Dolphin (we have 3 local species).

Boat trips are also an option which will take you out to sea to meet them up close.

To conclude the day, enjoy some specialty wines at Benguela Cove with unmatched natural beauty and views.

Whale-watching tours offer an exciting way to witness the majestic Southern Right whales that come to the Cape each season to breed and calve.

Whale season typically runs between June to November in the Cape, and each season, large numbers of whales can be seen along the coast. The best place to see these creatures is along the famous Whale Route, which spans along the coastline passing Gordon’s Bay, Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay en route to Hermanus.

Whale Watching Trips 

Our whale watching trips take place however, should the whales change their migration schedule (arrive early and leave later) we will adjust our schedule accordingly,  but can be longer depending on how quickly we find the whales.

At the start of the season we launch we put on an extra trip in the morning with a 7am launch and then from September on-wards an extra trip in the afternoon either 3:30pm or if a good sunset is forecasted a trip at 5pm.  The 5pm trip is truly a magnificent experience watching the whales bask in the shallow waters as well as experiencing a stunning Walker Bay sunset.

We take the breath taking coastal drive to Hermanus with superb views of False Bay and drive through a few quaint villages along the way.
Hermanus offers some of the world’s best land-based whale watching from the beautiful cliff path which stretches all along the coast.
After a leisurely stroll on the Cliff path to view whales, we enjoy lunch at one of the excellent seaside restaurants.
Then it is time to head on the the Hemel en Aarde Valley for a wine tasting before heading back to Cape Town.
There may be the opportunity to join boat-based whale watching (weather dependent), instead of stopping for a wine tasting.
