West Coast DC Trip Overview
A relatively short yet highly rewarding overnight hike. Not a fan of carrying heavy supplies needed for multi-day routes yet still want to experience the thrill and solitude of spending a night out in the remote mountain wildness. Then this route is for you. Starting from the Algeria Campsite, you’ll start with a medium gradient that slowly gets steeper as the paths turns into a series of switchbacks. We stop for afternoon tea and a refreshing shower in the waterfall halfway up. From there, we continue to climb to the plateau where the welcome end of the climbs turns into a flat stretch as we pass the Middle hut and make camp for the night nearby old oak trees and mount stream.

Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town and The Cederberg Mountains
Stop At: Cape Town Central, Cape Town Central, Western Cape
We collect you at your hotel, load the vehicle and head for the remote Cederberg Mountains.
Duration: 3 hours
Stop At: Koringberg, Koringberg, Western Cape
Desert Rose Farmstall, our obligatory coffee, breakfast and bathroom pitstop.
Duration: 35 minutes
Pass By: Cederberg Algeria Campsite, West Coast DC, South Africa
Yes, that’s the mountain we are going to be hiking up. Deep in the mountains and our hikes starting point. Time to get our packs on our backs as we cross the Rondegat River and make our way up the deep kloof.
Stop At: Cederberg, Cederberg, Western Cape
After a steady climb, we come across the impressive Middleberg Waterfall. We break for tea, a snack or a quick dip in the secluded pool below the waterfall.

Dry those feat, its time to make for the summit! We push for another 1.5 hours up an impressive series of switch-backs and we close in on the summit, the Middleberg hut, our over-night wild camp-site.
Stop At: Cederberg, Cederberg, Western Cape
Summit success! Our remote base for the night high up in the mountains. We have two choices here, we wild camp next to a mountain stream and pool, ideal for drinking and swimming, or we make use of the Middleberg Mountain a hut, a rustic no-frills straw floored mountain hut.

Day 2: We Wake to Amazing Views & Fresh Coffee
Stop At: Cederberg, Cederberg, Western Cape
After coffee, a light breakfast and a refreshing swim for the bold. It’s time to put our packs back on as we descend back to the base at the Algeria campsite.

With tired legs, we load the vehicle and hit the road back to Cape Town.
