What to Expect When Visiting Marbella, Andalucia, Spain

Stop At: Competa, Competa, Costa del Sol, Province of Malaga, Andalucia

You will be picked up from your holiday accommodation and driven through the rolling hills of Axarquia, to Competa, where your day begins. You will visit the whitewashed village of Competa and learn about its fascinating history, before visiting one of the most emblematic wineries in the area, that was originally a resin factory. You will visit the small boutique winery and sample the range of sweet wines, dry whites and rosés accompanied by an aperitif, on the winery terrace, overlooking the stunning Axarquia landscape, with the sea as a backdrop. You won’t want to leave!

Stop At: Moclinejo, Moclinejo, Province of Malaga, Andalucia

You will then be driven to the whitewashed village of Moclinejo, where you will enjoy a traditional Andalucian lunch in the town square.
After lunch, you will visit the local winery, and meet the fascinating Marina, who was born and brought up in the village. She will show us around the winery, including the wine museum with artefacts for wine making, dating back to the turn of the 20th century. She will also explain the heroic farming techniques and you will see first-hand the challenges of producing wine in the Axarquia. The Axarquia was recognised as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), by UNESCO in 2018 for its heroic farming techniques.
