In this building the metal that came from the Indies was melted and supervised (in the royal hornazas, where the furnaces were), converted into coins and then distributed throughout Europe. This house hired two hundred people for this function. The house was found in a courtyard where we currently find the La Fundición Theater in honor of the function that the building once had.

It is a building that was built as an albarrana tower in the time of the Almohads to protect the city from attack by pirates, later being used as a customs building and controlling all the ships that entered and left the port area.
