Itinerary
Having met and collected your bikes, an introduction along with safety instructions will follow.
The ride begins towards east of Sigiriya along the tarmac road before turning in to smaller and quieter interiors.
Initial section of the ride will take you through Sigiriya village before passing the giant standing statue of the Buddha. A section through the nature reserve awaits next. Views of massive Pidurangala rock with its peculiar shape and the view of Lion rock in the distance will be a beautiful sight. A variety of dry zone birds and mammals such as grey langurs, mongoose, giant squirrels are frequently spotted.
We will then continue along a network of canals which irrigate the vast fields of rice and vegetables for which the area is well known for. The views of farmlands and mountains in the backdrop create a beautiful scenery.
A couple of stops to try local snacks and refreshment will be a lovely opportunity to experience village life. village schools, small Buddhist shrines, little boutiques, vast fields of rice cultivations, many small reservoirs and a mix of daily village activities are not to miss while you slowly explore this beautiful region on two wheels.
