Itinerary

Day 1: Colombo – Ella

Stop At: Nine Arches Bridge, Ella Sri Lanka
The Nine Arch Bridge forms a viaduct between the Demodara and Ella Railway stations. The Bridge was commissioned in 1941, however the construction came to a halt during World War I, due to a shortage in the materials needed to pursue the build. The build was eventually continued using only bricks, rocks & cement- giving the entire bridge a unique and beautiful structure. The Nine Arch Bridge stands out from its agricultural, jungle background not only with it’s sheer height (24m) but through it’s beautiful orange, rustic stone colour. The bridge acts as a perfect contrast to the thick, green jungle that it is situated in, which is one of the many reasons tourists head to this spot, to appreciate it’s beauty amongst the landscape.
