Day 1: Negombo-Trincomalee
Stop At: Koneswaram Temple, Trincomalee Sri Lanka
Thirukoneswaram or the Holy Koneswaram Temple, is a Hindu temple in Thirukonamalai Trincomalee on the east coast of Sri Lanka.The temple lies on a high rocky promontory surrounded on three sides by the sea. It bears a history of over three millennia with its records indicating its roots in 1580 BC. This, still beautiful, historical monument is what remains.Koneswaram gains its name from the main deity of the temple, the Hindu God Shiva. Shiva, who is also called Eeshwar or Eeshwarar, reigns over the mountain of Holy Konam Thirukonamalai Tamil Thiru Holy Konam Name Malai Mountain hence giving the name Thirukoneshwarar Thiru Kona Eeshwarar.The name ‘Konam’ is believed to have come from the Old Tamil word meaning ‘peak’ Another name given to the temple is ‘Dakshina Kailayam’ a Sanskrit name meaning ‘Mount Kailash of the South’. Some also call it ‘Aathi Koneswaram’ where ‘Aathi’ is the Tamil word for ancient.

Fort Fredrick, also known as Trincomalee Fort or Fort of Triquillimale, is a fort built by the Portuguese at Trincomalee, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka, completed in 1624 CE, built on Swami Rock Konamamalai from the debris of the world famous ancient Hindu Koneswaram temple Temple of a Thousand Pillars. The temple was destroyed by the Portuguese colonial Constantino de Sá de Noronha under Phillip III, occupier of the Jaffna kingdom and Malabar country on the island. On the Konamalai cape was also built a new village of Portuguese and Tamil people, 50 Portuguese soldiers and inside the fort, a church named after “Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe”. The Fort of Triquillimale was dismantled and rebuilt by the Dutch in 1665, renamed Fort Fredrick.Built in the 1600s, Ford Frederick is a colonial fort by the Portuguese in the Trincomalee Town. The Fort is in to house within it, the Koneswaram Temple, yet another attraction in this area.

Stop At: Nilaveli Beach, Nilaveli Sri Lanka
Nilaveli Beach is arguably one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Nilaveli Beach lies north of Uppuveli Beach in Trincomalee. It’s a short 20 minute drive to get from one beach to the other. It’s quieter and more secluded than Uppuveli Beach, and the clear water makes it the best beach in Trincomalee in my opinion. Similarly, to Nilaveli Beach, Uppuveli is a long, sandy beach with clear waters and no waves.Located about 10 minutes outside of Trincomalee lies the small beach village of Uppuveli.

Day 2: Trincomalee-Negombo
Stop At: Trincomalee War Cemetery, Nilaveli Road, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
The Trincomalee British War Cemetery is a British military cemetery situated on the Trincomalee Nilaveli Road. It is built for soldiers of the British Empire who were killed or died during World War II. The cemetery is one of the six Commonwealth war cemeteries in Sri Lanka. Established in 1948, the British War Cemetery is owned by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and maintained by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense. There are 303 graves in the cemetery.

Stop At: Trincomalee Harbour, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
Trincomalee harbour is the second best natural harbour in the world and the available water and land area is about 10 times as much as the Port of Colombo. Trincomalee was tentatively identified to cater for bulk and break bulk cargo and port related industrial activities including heavy industries, tourism and agriculture etc.The Trincomalee Harbour is a natural harbour situated in Trincomalee Bay which is also known as Koddiyar Bay. The Trincomalee Harbour is an iconic and historically important harbour in Sri Lanka. The Portugese, Dutch and the British have all engaged in sea battles to control and conquer the harbour. It was formerly a British naval base which was taken over by the Ceylonese government in 1956 to be developed as a commercial port. The Trincomalee Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world with 1630 hectares of water and an entrance channel which is 500 m wide.

Stop At: Marble Beach, Kinniya Road, Trincomalee 31000 Sri Lanka
Marble Beach is a beautiful and clean beach situated in Kinniya Road, Trincomalee. This pristine sandy beach is excellent for relaxing and the sea is ideal for swimming. Beach in Trincomalee
About 17km south of Trinco, there’s a turn-off on the left for Marble Beach signposted just before the Kinniya bridge, a glorious cove bookended by wooded headlands. Marble Beach is also known by the name of Marble Bay Beach and is one of the most beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka.
