Itinerary

Day 1: Airport– Dambulla/ Sigiriya

Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple, Jaffna Hwy, Habarana 50150 Sri Lanka
Dambulla Cave temple is one of the most impressive and well-preserved cave temples in Asia. This complex contains five caves with over 2000 sqm. of painted walls and ceilings. This emphasizes the artistic talents of the people lived in this small island. Due to its artistic & archaeological values, Dambulla Cave temple has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Stop At: Minneriya National Park, Maradankadawala-Habarana-Thirukkondaiadimadu Highway, 50150 Sri Lanka
Half Day Game drive to Minneriya National Park is a 3 hours game viewing opportunity with Beyond Escapes Safari Team. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population thus the national park is one of the best places in the country to see wild elephants, which are often present in huge numbers, and wading birds. Dominated by the ancient Minneriya Tank, the park has plenty of scrubs, forest, and wetlands which are a home to approx. 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish, and 75 species of butterflies.

Day 2: Dambulla/ SigiriyaKandy

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
In the 5th century, King Kashyapa domesticated the Lions Rock, by building a palace atop its summit & well designed for its defenses by having ramparts and moats built around it. The Rock itself has its unique identity due to its shape not found anywhere else on the island.

Stop At: Sigiriya Craft Village, Kimbissa, Sigiriya Sri Lanka
The handicrafts village in Sigiriya was established in 2003 and it has facilities for maintenance of a number of various fields of handicraft. 48 stalls have been set up in this village for handicraftsmen. If you wish to buy authentic fabrics and other items of Sri Lanka, Step into the village and you will be exposed to various shops selling batiks, brass-works, ornamental pots, handloom textiles, wood carvings and silver jewelry. Shopkeepers let the visitors to witness the craftwork of the craftsmen as well. Nice place to hang out for some time and buy a souvenir for the journey.

For centuries, spices have been one of the most celebrated exports in Sri Lanka. They have been used for medicines, cosmetics as well as to flavor foods. History says that the Greeks, Arabs & Malays had linked with Sri Lankan business field through spice trade. Spices provide ground for traditional Ayurveda.

Day 3: Kandy- Nuwara Eliya

Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Road, Peradeniya 20400 Sri Lanka
Located at the edge of Mahaveli river, Peradeniya Royal botanical garden was started as a pleasure garden in the British colonial era. Today it is renowned for bundles of varieties of plants including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. A map is not required, just wander through the paths of green lawns. You will witness the flower arches which are waiting to welcome you! Don’t by-pass the giant Javan tree, which is a nice place to have a sit & take a snap! The suspension bridge is also a highlight in this garden & you can walk on it too. It’s not a surprise that this flourishing garden will leave sweet memories for you.

Stop At: Ramboda Waterfall, Pussellawa Sri Lanka
Ramboda waterfall is not a single waterfall and it has two stairs. The upside of the main road of Ramboda place, there is another waterfall. Most of the tourist dismisses the waterfall and they visit upside waterfall and go away. It is 109 m (358 ft.) high and has recommended as the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 729th highest waterfall in the world. It formed by Panna Oya which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya.

It is not a secret that Nuwara Eliya is the heart of tea industry, where tea bushes cover rolling hills like soft moss and interspersed with Eucalyptus, Albesia and other trees. Tea pluckers work on the slopes, butterfly-like in their colorful sarees. Tea had been one of the main exports in Sri Lanka for by-gone decades. On your way, you will see acres & acres of greenery, tea plantations all around.

The town of Nuwara Eliya enjoys spring-like weather throughout the year. A favorite retreat of the British during colonial times, the town is dotted with English country style houses and half-timbered bungalows. In this city tour, you can visit Victoria Park. It is an attractive and well-used oasis. It is popular with birdwatchers at quieter times because of the good opportunities it gives to see various species, and also you can visit Gregory Lake, which was constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873, as well as you can visit Golf courses in Nuwara Eliya Town.

Canoeing Expedition
Starting this canoe/raft ride, from “Kiriella”- known for its gems, and end up the first day run at a place named “Anguruwathota”.
This section is modarate and Along the route you will be able to see many vegetation types / changing landscapes. Just passing populated areas, riverbank environment becomes more scenic and quite with lonely sand collectors’ houses surrounded by thick vegetation and palm trees! During most of the ride only noises you are going to hear are the birds’ calls and the sound that will make by your paddle.

Day 6: Angruwathota- Kalutara- Colombo

Reach Kalutara

Early in the morning after breakfast you will start the last section of the trip till you come to one of the most sacred places of worship of Sri Lanka – Kuluthara.[Just by the ocean]
From the start to the end river is constant in speed (~4-5km/h) without any rapids.

Day 7: Colombo- Airport

Stop At: Colombo, Colombo, Western Province
City tour in Colombo
You guide will give a small introduction about the tour and start the walk. Along the way, you will explore a handful of the many lively streets that sell everything from textiles to electronics to spices. Hidden within these streets you will find yourselves coming up to the Old Dutch Museum where you can feast your eyes on the pristine architecture of the mansion that was built in the latter part of the 17th century and was initially the residence of Count August Carl Van Ranzow. Thereafter, you will proceed to the commercial hub of Colombo, Fort, where you will find another colonial gem, the Old Dutch Hospital; once a functional hospital during the 17th century, the complex is now hosting to high-end restaurants, bars, and shops. Your host will stop here for a drink with you and give you time to admire this location but be warned that if the photographer’s eye in your host sees the possibilities of a spectacular sunset, you may be rushed through drinks so that you will move on to the lighthouse just in time. The walk will come to an end at the historic Galle Face hotel, the oldest hotel east of the Suez, via a half kilometer walk along the Galle Face Green promenade that is usually busy with young and old alike.

As all good things come to an end, you will be safely driven to the airport for your flight back home having sweet memories of the tour with Beyond Escapes!!!
