Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo/Colombo – Haputhale

Stop At: Bambarakanda Falls, Ohiya Rd, Kalupahana 90186 Sri Lanka
Amongst the majestic mountains of Kalupahana in the Central Highlands; leaps the beautiful horsetail waterfall of Bambarakanda Ella. A Horsetail Fall descends a very nearly vertical rock face, maintaining some contact with it. As the tallest falls in the island, Bambarakanda has a vertical height of 263m (863 feet); and is ranked 299th amongst the tallest waterfalls of the world. Bambarakanda originates from Kuda Oya, a branch of the Walawe River.The area is a great spot for photography and picnics. There is a natural pool complex at the base of the falls; where you can also bathe before your meal, if you decide on a picnic. It is a horsetail type of waterfall with a single drop. The waterfall has a natural base pool which is ideal for bathing. The surrounding area is popular as a photography spot.

Stop At: Thangamale Bird Sanctuary, Haputale Sri Lanka
Thangamale Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary which is situated in Beragala close to Haputale. The bird sanctuary is situated in an off the beaten path in Thangamale, which is also known as the ‘Golden Mountain’, and is part of the Glennanore Tea Estate. Comprising of 131 hectares it was designated as a protected area in the year 1938 Thangamale Bird Sanctuary may be one of the lesser known nature reserves in the country, however, it certainly does not lack in giving the wildlife junkie and adventure thrill seeker a unique experience. Boasting of some of the more endemic and rare birds of Sri Lanka, along with other wildlife, the bird sanctuary serves to be an idyllic setting for the hardcore birder and wildlife enthusiast. Coupled with some of the more serene views of the central highlands draped in a cascade of lush greenery, the sanctuary also serves to be ideal for the one looking for that perfect scenery, making it all the more enticing for the wide eyed traveller.

Stop At: Adisham Bungalow, Adisham Rd, Haputale 90160, Sri Lanka
Adisham Hall, or Adisham Bungalow is a country house near Haputale, in the Badulla District, Sri Lanka. At present it houses the Adisham Monastery a congregation of St. Sylvester.The house was built in 1931 by an English aristocrat and planter Sir Thomas Villiers, former Chairman of George Steuart Co, a trading and estate agency based in Colombo. The Bungalow has an impressive library which is filled from floor to ceiling with old dusty volumes that the planter held dear. Adisham Bungalow is perched on the edge of a cliff which is flanked by a larger outcrop fringed with tall pine trees, which somehow dwarf the house. The country home also has a wonderful view of the Uva valley, as well as a beautiful garden and orchard that you can stroll through.

Day 2: Haputhale – Negombo/Colombo

Stop At: Dambatenne Tea Factory, Haputale-Dambethanna Rd, Haputale 90160 Sri Lanka
Dambatenne tea Factory is a must visit when you’re on a trip to Haputhale. This popular tea factory was built in 1890 by Sir Thomas Lipton, one of the most famous figures in tea history. The tour through the works is an education on the processes involved in the fermentation, rolling, drying, cutting, sieving and grading of tea. The term “Ceylon Tea” was coined here, and Lipton’s Tea was founded and sold its first pound of tea from the precincts of this very factory.

Stop At: Lipton’s Seat, Haputale 90160 Sri Lanka
Lipton seat lookout is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Sri Lanka. The view from lipton seat manges to take your breath away. The Scottish tea baron Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his burgeoning empire from here, and today it’s said you can see across emerald hills and tea estates to no fewer than seven different provinces. Located on the top of the town’s namesake, Poonagala Hill, it is also near the Dambatenne Tea Factory. Your hike to lipton seat will strat from signed narrow paved road from the Dambatenne Tea Factory and climb about 8km through lush tea plantations.

Stop At: Diyaluma Falls, Colombo – Batticaloa Hwy, Koslanda 90190 Sri Lanka
Located in the off beaten tracks of Sri Lankan highlands diyaluma waterfalls is home to epic views and some of the most magnificient infity pools in the world. Its name translates to “rapid flow of water”, which is very appropriate and It’s actually the 361st highest water fall in the world Diyaluma waterfall is the second biggest waterfall in Sri Lanka with a drop of 220 m to the valley below and can be considered as a perfect spot for a little hike through multiple falls and natural pools. Hiking downhill through long, dry grass for about 30 minutes, you’ll hear the sound of water rushing long before the stunning upper Diyaluma falls become clear.
