Stop At: Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project, 13A Galle Road, Kosgoda 80570 Sri Lanka

Turtle hatcheries are good for the environment, save lives, and incredibly fun. There are a few lovely ones down the coast, especially in and around the Kosgoda area. The experience for tourists (regardless of nationality) is just brilliant. If you swing by during the day you’ll get to see all the adorable little hatchlings or the older and wiser turtles doing their thing in the tanks. But the real fun is being part of the release! It goes down almost every day around sunset.

Community Tsunami Museum is aimed educating communities on Tsunami and preserve the memories of 2004 Tsunami. This museum is the continuation of the efforts of Third Wave Volunteers lead by Dr. Alison Thompson (author of The Third Wave – A volunteer Story and the director of Film Third Wave). This museum will take you a touching journey through science and history of 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. This small museum contains pictures of the disaster, the aftermath and the beginnings of the recovery work. There is a very full account of the causes of tsunamis and much geographical information . There is also some amazing artwork done by children as part of art therapy treatment and education.

Also renowned as Pointe de Galle Light, Galle Lighthouse is a prominent tourist attraction of Galle. Situated on the shores of Galle, the lighthouse makes a postcard-perfect scenario against the emerald waves hitting the fine beige sands of Galle. The present day lighthouse stands with a height of 26.5 meters and was rebuilt in 1939. The lighthouse is an exemplary work by the renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. It has been listed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Galle Fort Lighthouse is a perfect spot for picnics and spending a relaxing holiday. Witness the gorgeous sunset from here.
