Itinerary
Day 1: Tunis – Kairouan – Tozeur
Stop At: Kairouan, Kairouan, Kairouan Governorate
Our Driver will pick you up from your hotel or address in Tunis, and depart around 09:00am toward Kairouan.
You will spend 1 to 2 hours in Kairouan, discovering this Holy Islam City. It gained its “Holy” status thanks to it being the very first Islamic City in the whole continent of Africa.

Stop At: The Great Mosque of Kairouan, Rue Sidi Abdelkader, Kairouan 3100 Tunisia
You will have a guided visit with your driver/guide to the Great Mosque of Kairouan “Okba Ibn Nafaa”, which is the first ever mosque in Africa. It used to be the center of the politics, but also of education as a University, during the first few muslim dynasties that ruled over North Africa.
It was named after the Muslim Army General “Okba Ibn Nafaa” who conquered the north african country of Tunisia.

Stop At: Mosque Sidi Sahbi (Mosque of the Barber), Kairouan Tunisia
We will continue our tour of the Holy City, by visiting the Mosque of the Barber.
It was named after “Sidi Sahbi”, who was a personal friend and companion of Islam’s Prophet Mohamed, and as he left Arabia to North Africa, he brought with him a small lock of hair, which he claimed belonged to Mohamed, thus his nickname “the Barber”.
His body today rests in a mausoleum, inside this very mosque.
After visiting the mausoleum, we will continue to the nearby Aghlabides Basins.
Those are 3 huge water basins, built during the Aghlabid Dynasty, served as a grand hydraulic installation that has provided water for townspeople since the Middle Ages.

Day 2: Tozeur Half Day Sahara Tour – Douz – Matmata
Stop At: Chebika, Tunisia
We will kickstart our day, after breakfast, by visiting the Oasis of Chebika and Tamarza, two neighboring tiny medieval towns, originally built by the local Berbers (Amazigh people).
In here, you will witness a wonder of nature, where water flows in the heart of the Sahara desert, thus giving life to the Flora, mainly the Date Palm tree, which in turn permitted for people to settle down around the oasis.
We will get all the way to the top of the mountain, part of the “Atlas Mountains Chain”, and then back down to the waterfalls.

Stop At: Decor Star Wars Tunisie, Au depart de Tozeur, Tozeur 2200 Tunisia
After Chebika & Tamarza, we will hop on our Jeep vehicles to enter the Desert dunes, and visit the very famous Star Wars decor set, which housed the shootings for the first movies of the licence.
This is “Mos Espa”, the port city on planet Tatooine.

Stop At: Chott El Jerid, Entre Tozeur y Blidet, Tozeur 2200 Tunisia
Continuation to Douz “The Desert Gates”, passing through Chott El Djerid, considered the largest Salt Lake in the world. We will have several stops on the lake to take photos and enjoy the unique landscape.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Douz, Douz, Kebili Governorate
Arrival to Douz, a unique Sahara city. It is known that shepherds are the original inhabitant of Douz, and their name are Mrazig, coming mainly from the Tripolitan land in the XII century. Lunch in Douz.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Matmata, Matmata, Gabes Governorate
Continuation to Matmata, visit of a troglodytic dwelling excavated in the friable soil. It is indeed an austere place, but it offers a unique landscape that was also used for scenes shooting for Star Wars. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Matmata – El Jem – Tunis
Stop At: Matmata, Matmata, Gabes Governorate
After breakfast, we will kickstart the day by visiting the troglodyte house that was used as a shooting decore for “Star Wars”, which is now also a hotel.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Amphitheatre of El Jem, El-Jem Tunisia
Departure to El Jem, the ancient Roman “Thydrus” city. It was one of the richest cities of Roman Africa, that dates back to the third century AD, and housing the third largest Roman amphitheater in the world, and the largest one in Africa.
Visit the amphitheater and El Jem National Museum, housing hundreds of ancient Mosaic art pieces, alongside a fully reconstructed Roman Villa.
Lunch at El Jem, while enjoying the view of the amphitheatre.
We will continue afterward to Tunis, where we will drop you at your hotel or address, or airport if you have a flight to catch.
