Hampton Court Palace 3hr tour: Henry VIII's & William III's intriguing Palaces

Hampton Court Palace, the home of England's most notorious king Henry VIII, has tales of ghosts, executions and his expanding collection of wives!  Perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of central London, Hampton Court has something to please all the family.

There are two palaces to look round, Henry VIII's built in the 1500s and William III's at the end of the 1600s.  In addition, there are the Georgian rooms, stunning gardens and a maze. There is a real tennis court with the chance to see the complicated game of real tennis in action!

Hampton Court Palace Private Tour - discovering the excesses of Henry VIII

Henry VIII was a man of excess and he certainly did not do things by halves! On this tour with me (Sandy) you will wander through the enormous kitchens where feasts of nine courses were prepared for him and his noble guests to enjoy; you will be amazed at the exquisiteness of his tapestries which cost double the price of his favourite war ship to make. You might also be horrified by the story of Henry's expanding collection of wives and how, as desperation set in to find a son and heir, Henry took drastic measures! This tour will fill you in on Henry's life of excess: the size of his kitchens, the glamour of his furnishings, why he became so large, who his wives were and what happened to them all. But most of all, this is a chance to enjoy imagining the unimaginable: wealth and excess that knew no bounds resulting in one of the most magnificent courts in Europe!
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Hampton Court & Thames Riverboat Picnic

A fascinating insight into generations of the Royal family followed by a riverboat picnic. It’s a holiday highlight.

Close to London and a pleasant drive, Hampton Court was the jewel in Henry Vlll’s crown. The chance to see it in situ with the baroque palace of William and Mary, built some 150 years later offers a unique insight into a span of English History like no other.

As well as the magnificent architecture, the grounds and gardens of Hampton Court are world famous, from the maze to the huge grape vine, the long avenue of topiaried Yews leading down the river and the beautiful boat house, it sometimes seems as if Hampton Court has more to offer than all of England’s other palaces put together.

And after all this excess of grandeur what could be more pleasant than a picnic on the river aboard the delightful Princess Freda, a piece of British History herself having been part of the armada of ‘little ships’ that saved the British Army from Hitler at Dunkirk in the summer of 1940.
