American Revolution and Beyond in Machias!

Join us on a one hour walking tour of picturesque Machias, Maine. Located on the Machias River, this small coastal town has a rich history and played an important role in the Revolutionary War. Come walk around the downtown area and explore the many colonial buildings that still stand today. The tour will focus on some of the highlights of Maine history. In addition to the Revolution, the history of Maine’s other central industries, fishing and forestry have also left their mark on the area. This rural location is full of hidden gems! The route of the tour will be mostly flat and will pass by the courthouse, Porter Library, and an up close view of Bad Little Falls. This area has a rich history that often does not get recognized. These tours are typically very small ranging from 2-4 people on average.

Local park that features falls of the Machias River. The Park features a scenic lookout that will be the backdrop for our stories about the American Revolution and the logging industry.

One of 21 buildings designated as most significant to the American Revolution, the Burnham Tavern will be very important in our story of the role Machias played in the early Revolution. The museum is not open during the tour, but the building is in a very viewable location.
