This is one of the most significant houses in Philadelphia, actually in the entire country, because it is truly the birthplace of America. It is here that Thomas Jefferson resided as he penned the Declaration of Independence that would forever sever our ties with Great Britain and begin a new nation.

The names on the tombs within this historic burial ground are extensive and read as a who’s who of colonial Philadelphia. There are 1400 grave markers here. Probably the most famous tomb is that of Benjamin Franklin who rests beside his wife, Deborah and their four-­‐‑year-­‐‑old son, Francis. Actually Ben Franklin wrote his own epitaph when he was 23 years old.
