This tour is great for those who would like to get a full understanding of Gustav Klimt’s art by visiting the three museums that exhibit his most prominent works.

We start at the Belvedere Palace. This is where you can see "The Kiss" and "Judith", the most famous paintings of the “Golden Period”. "The Kiss" is one of the most iconic tourist landmarks of the city, and we begin our tour here to understand the context and origins of Klimt’s art.

After that, we will go to the exhibition hall of the Secession to see Klimt’s biggest work, the "Beethoven Frieze". This is the only work by this artist that purposely fully surrounds the viewer, which means that this is your chance to become one with art.

The Leopold Museum is a unique treasure-house of Viennese Jugendstil, the Wiener Werkstätte and Expressionism. It is the most-visited museum of the city’s hottest cultural site, the MuseumsQuartier, and it houses the most significant and largest Egon Schiele collection in the world, as well as masterworks by Secession founder Gustav Klimt.

The Leopold Collection includes the most striking and emotional works of Viennese art from the early twentieth century. We will certainly discuss whether it is a coincidence that when the Viennese psychotherapist Sigmund Freud was developing concepts such as "repression", "Oedipus complex" and "acting out", the Viennese artist Schiele painted portraits of blind associates, parodies of famous works by colleagues and paintings of dead mothers.

Klim and Schiele are two of the most famous names of the Viennese art scene at the beginning of the 20th century, but we also take a look at the work of their contemporaries Koloman Moser, Max Openheimer and Bronzia Koller-Pinel and you get a detailed insight into the vibrant intellectual life and creative scene in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Leopold Museum in the Museum Quarter has the largest collection of works by this Viennese expressionist. So here I offer you a crash-course on the problematic topics of 20th century art: the borderline between art and pornography, the relevance of the artist's personality to the interpretation of his works, and the question of the objective and subjective value of art.

We will restrict ourselves to those data from the artist's biography, whose traces can be clearly seen in his works. Most of our attention will be focused on the principles of interpretation that are relevant for 20th century art.
