Charlie Auclair was first touched by the wine bug when he took a trip to Napa in 1988. He moved to Washington State in 1992 and settled down in western Washington a few hours from one of the best grape growing and wine making regions of the world.
The first wine was a 2000 Merlot that was shared with a few friends who all praised the effort. After a few years and a few more trials, the Auclair winery was born in 2008.

The 100+ acres of Cave B Estate Vineyards, located in the Ancient Lakes of the Columbia Valley AVA, in Washington State are planted on carefully selected sites, dictated by soil type, soil depth, slope, declination to the sun, and distance from the modifying temperature effects of the Columbia River. Red grape varieties are planted closest to the river, while Germanic white varieties are planted a mile to the east, where a shorter growing season, and slightly cooler temperatures prevail.

In 2004, after over twenty-three years in the Pharmaceutical / Biotech sector, serendipity played a significant role in Jim’s life. Upon being relocated to Washington from California, Jim’s new team, knowing he loved wine, presented him with a basket of fine Washington wines to show him that superior wines were indeed produced “outside” California.
And thus was a new chapter in life begun.
