What to Expect When Visiting Hanoi, Vietnam, Vietnam

This city tour provides an overview of Hanoi, its people, and popular attractions, including Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter. Gain insider knowledge of the historical city, provided by your guide, and don’t miss the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, the Presidential Palace, and the Temple of Literature.

Receive pickup from your Hanoi hotel in the morning and begin your full-day tour with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Explore the architectural and historical aspects of Uncle Ho’s final resting place with your guide. Just next door is Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts, and standing to one side of the mausoleum is One Pillar Pagoda, which was founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049. Learn how the structure has become an important symbol for the people of Hanoi.

Then continue on to Tran Quoc Pagoda at West Lake to see one of the oldest Buddhist pagodas in Vietnam. Visit Bat Trang pottery village (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only) before a set lunch at a local restaurant.

Afterward, proceed to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday only), followed by the Temple of Literature (Quoc Tu Giam): Vietnam’s first university, constructed in 1070. Its gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a relaxing glimpse into Vietnam’s past. You’re taken past Hoan Kiem Lake (Lake of the Restored Sword) to see the tranquil waters and the beauty of Ngoc Son (Jade Mountain Temple).

Finally, journey through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, where each bustling street is named after a trade that used to take place there. Have free time for some shopping and exploration before your tour ends in the late afternoon.

For an additional expense, payable direct, you can add on a 1-hour bike tour or opt to see a water puppet show — a traditional performance that dates back to the 11th century in the villages of the Red River Delta area of northern Vietnam — before hotel drop-off.
